Movie: Kukata Miti

August 13 @ 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join us for a screening of the documentary Kukata Miti.

German filmmaker Daniel Kötter invites his long-time collaborators, Indonesian instrument maker and musician Ikbal Lubys and Congolese journalist and women’s rights activist Olande Byamungu, along with their children, to visit the landscapes of his own homeland: the forests of the Bergisches Land region have been devastated by drought and bark beetle infestations in recent years. In return, Lubys and Byamungu take Kötter’s camera to places in their home countries where the loss of forest has led to drastic social and political upheaval. What begins as an outside perspective on a Central European romanticization of the forest topos transforms over the course of the film into an increasingly violent narrative of the material relationship between humans and non-humans.
